Volleyball Set To Join UTA Beats Cancer Campaign

ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington volleyball team will join the department's UTA Beats Cancer initiative to raise funds and awareness for the cause with the Mavericks' home game on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. against ULM.

The program has elected to focus on breast cancer and the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States.

The UTA Beats Cancer initiative is a year-round effort that begins in the fall with volleyball and concludes in the spring with the baseball and softball teams. UTA athletic teams will join the UTA Beats Cancer campaign, and each team will have their own fundraising efforts and their own cancer awareness initiative.

Volleyball, women's basketball, and softball have all chosen to fundraise for breast cancer.  Men's basketball will be fundraising for melanoma cancer, while baseball will be fundraising for colon cancer.

UTA Athletics will be fundraising throughout the season and during the designated home events, with proceeds benefiting local cancer patient and outreach platforms in Arlington through the Moncrief Cancer Institute. The fundraising goal for the 2021-22 academic year is $11,500, and fans can join the cause by easily donating online (https://www.moncrief.com/uta).
