ARLINGTON, Texas– The UT Arlington men's tennis team (9-5) is set to travel to Corpus Christi to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the second time this season. They will face the Islanders at 10 a.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Mavericks defeated the Islanders 4-1 in their last matchup on March 1. They are also coming off a 4-3 win over Wichita State, the first win over the Shockers since 2017.
Anton Shepp is heading into the match as the WAC player of the week. He holds the most wins on the team with a 10-3 record on Court 1 after a straight-set win over the Shockers. In the last match against the Islanders, Shepp earned a strong 6-2, 7-5 win over Avery Zavala.
Freshman
Lachlan Robertson holds an 8-3 record at Court 5. He earned a solid win over Wichita State's Richey King 6-4, 6-2. Robertson also earned a solid 6-2, 6-1 win over TAMUCC's Ulysse Bertrand.
Dante Teramo is also coming off a strong win over Wichita State on Court 6. He defeated Duccio Petreni 6-2, 7-6 (2).
Doubles pair Teramo and
Santiago Giamichelle were key in winning the doubles point over the Shockers. They clinched the early lead with a 6-4 win. The duo also earned a solid win over the Islanders, defeating Lucas Schurdevin and Nathan Schwartz 6-3.
SCOUTING TEXAS A&M- CORPUS CHRISTI
The Islanders hold an 11-6 record for the season. They have earned two wins over UTA's WAC opponent UT Rio Grande Valley this season. The Mavericks are 7-15 against the Islanders after their last win in March. Matthieu Peres holds an 11-3 record for the Islanders at the No. 4 position. Schwartz has also been strong for the Islanders, holding a 10-4 record on Court 3. Doubles pair Zavala and Pascal Lorieul have been the primary No. 1 team, with a 6-3 record.
